Our Story
From a single B.Sc. Computer Science programme to a full research-driven department — three decades of building women technologists.
The Department of Computer Science at Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women has blossomed into a flourishing hub for women in technology. Established with the vision of empowering women to become leaders in the tech industry, the department has witnessed remarkable growth. Its initial offering, the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, laid a strong foundation. Today, the department boasts a diverse curriculum encompassing Bachelor programmes in Information Technology, Cyber Security and Computer Applications.
The department's commitment to providing a well-rounded educational experience extends beyond undergraduate studies. Its history of milestones began in 1994–95 with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approval for the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme. Master's programmes in Computer Applications and Information Technology equip graduates with advanced skills for specialised careers, while a range of certificate courses further enhance student employability.
To foster a culture of research and innovation, a dedicated Research Centre in Computer Science was established in 2011–12, expanding opportunities further with the introduction of M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. The department's commitment to a modern learning experience is evident in the successful implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework in 2022–23, and most recently, in 2023–24, it secured recognition under the prestigious DBT Star College Scheme — a mark of excellence in science and technology education.
